REBECA'S MATRYOSKHA DOLLS
After the interview, Rebeca and I briefly talked about her artifact. She explained to me that she felt that the Matryoshka Dolls she brought from home were objects that she believed represented her college experience.
Matryoshka dolls are traditional Russian dolls, also known as "Russian nesting dolls." They are a set of dolls made from wood that decrease in size. Each doll can be placed inside another, until all dolls are inside a bigger doll.
Even thought they can be kept that way, Rebeca prefers to display them side by side to each other. They set was a gift from one of her friends who went to Russia. Her friend explained that they symbolize each phase in one's life. They are incredibly special to Rebeca, and they are specially related to her experience in college because to her they represent the new phase in her life of newfound physical independence from her parents, even though she is still financially dependent.
